Wendell Gene Freeman

April 30, 1964 — June 17, 2024

Wendell Gene Freeman, aged 60, of Pelsor, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at CHI Saint Vincent in Little Rock, Arkansas. Wendell was born on April 30, 1964, in Russellville, Arkansas to his loving parents Edgar Freeman and Ava Freeman (Hicks). He is now reunited with his parents and preceded death by his dear brother Finis Freeman. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Wendell is survived by his dedicated Wife, Jennifer Freeman, his cherished daughter Danielle (Andrew) Rocole, two beloved sons Zach Freeman and Jacob (Yvonne) Freeman. He was a proud grandfather to three grandsons - Keagan Wendell, Kayden, and Kannon nicknamed the "Three Amigos". Wendell is also survived by his caring sister Edna Mae (Bill) Ralph and four brothers: Johnny (Venitha) Freeman, Wilburn (Ruby) Freeman, E.L. (Brenda) Freeman, and David (Cheryl) Freeman. Additionally, he is remembered by his Sister-in-Law Shirley Freeman and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.  As well as his beloved Hankins Family which he considered a second family.

A man of faith and integrity, Wendell dedicated himself to serving as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader and Deacon for multiple churches throughout the years. Regarded as the baby of the family, he exhibited a diligent work ethic from an early age. Beginning his career in the second grade under Don Hankins' guidance instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for the store. For three decades as a logger, Wendell developed a deep love for the outdoors.

He became the face of the Sand Gap General Store; here he exemplified daily acts of service within the community while sharing his faith with all who crossed his path, all while making a fried bologna sandwich. Wendell's warm presence made him a recognizable figure within the community. He was featured in various media appearances as a local celebrity due to his genuine charm and welcoming nature as “Hank the Store Keeper”. Wendell was known for his “crack cookies” and his overalls.
