Val Fisher

June 2, 1940 — June 6, 2024

Dover

Val Fisher went home to her Heavenly Father & was reunited with the love of her life - her beloved husband, Roy.

Valeria (Val) Fisher was born June 2, 1940, in Charles City, lowa to Henry E (Hank) & Eleanor Parker Bahlman. She graduated from Floyd High School in 1958.

Following her graduation she married Roger Dyre on July 6, 1958. Three children were born to this union; Tim, Richard and Lorrie. Roger & Val were later divorced and on January 1, 1980, she married Roy Fisher. In March 1981 Val and Roy moved to Dover, Arkansas

Val worked for North lowa Community Action as a Social Worker. She later became Executive Director for Cedar Terrace Housing for the Elderly in Charles City. Val joined the Newcomers Club in Russellville & later served as their president.

She was Vice President of her husband's business, Fisher Manufacturing Services.

Her laugh was uniquely her own & infectious to everyone around her.

Val was a loving wife and mother. She loved to cook & bake for her family.

She loved animals, especially cats, & was known by her friends as the "Cat Lady." She had many hobbies she enjoyed; crocheting afghans for family & friends, along with several pictures she painted, but she especially enjoyed her genealogy research, which she always referred to as a "treasure hunt".

Christmas was always her favorite time of the year. With the help of her daughter, daughter-in-laws, sons & son-in-law, she decorated her entire house for the holidays.

Val was a member of St. John's Lutheran church where she served on the Outreach Board, Altar Guild and Human Care Board.

She also enjoyed leading several Bible study classes. She was a long-time member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 3914 in Charles City, lowa & served as president in 1970. She was also the first president of the newly formed Junior Auxiliary to Post #3914 in 1954. She joined the Russellville Junior Auxiliary in 2005 She served as a board member & president for the Russellville chapter of CASA.

After our father's death in 2010, Mom continued the contributions Dad started for the oncology clinic in Russellville. In 2012 the oncology clinic nominated her as "giver of the year”.

She is survived by her two children; Tim (Kim) Dyre, Richard Fisher; son-in-law Audie Oliver; one stepdaughter Sheri (Greg) Christensen and her sister Janet Sheffner. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends, and her bonus daughter, Yingling Chen.
