Ronald Esserman, 83, of Dover, Arkansas, passed away on January 18, 2026, at Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Russellville, Arkansas. He was born on July 4, 1942, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Leslie and Anna Esserman.
Ron was an electrical engineer who retired from Dow Chemical and owned/operated Esserman Electrical Service, where he continued consulting work. His love for creativity, design, and hands-on craftsmanship showed in everything he did. For over 52 years, Ron poured his heart into building “Walden Too Railroad,” a 15-inch gauge train that stretched approximately 1.5 miles through his wooded property complete with a bridge he built across the creek. The railroad played a big part in his life; he used it to help build his four-story A-frame home, haul tools and supplies, and even take out the trash. But his favorite use was giving rides to countless visitors, both children and adults who came to see “The Train Man” of Dover. When people would ask what the cost of a ride was, he’d simply say, “A smile!” as he grinned. Ron’s property also featured life-sized trolley cars and a caboose, reflecting his deep interest in trains and engineering. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts, serving in Disaster Relief through First Baptist Church of Dover, and driving trolley cars at The Trolley Museum in Fort Smith, where he delighted visitors by sharing stories and history. Ron will be remembered for his ingenuity, his passion for building and problem-solving, and his dedication to sharing knowledge through his many projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 36 years, Wandalene Esserman; and his son, Ronald Dean Esserman. Survivors include his son, Royce Hentschel (Nancy) of Dover, Arkansas; three daughters, Cindy Roberson (Donnie) of Angleton, Texas, Kristel Hines (Max) of Russellville, Arkansas, and Sherilyn Esserman Fields (John) of College Station, Texas; one sister, Linda Esserman (Dave Richards) of Chesterton, Indiana; as well as numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, far too many to list. He is also remembered fondly by his former wife (Judie Sexton 2009-2024) with whom he shared many years of companionship and continued friendship.
His service will be Thursday, January 22, at Russellville Family Funeral. Visitation will begin at 1:00-2:30pm and celebration of life service beginning at 2:30. Burial will be in Caldwell, TX at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Russellville Family Funeral.
