Roe Paul DeVore

Roe Paul DeVore, age 81, of Pottsville, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, September 17th at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

He was born October 19, 1944, in Swifton, Arkansas, to Roe and Effie (Hardin) DeVore. He graduated from Swifton High School in 1962.

He was a Vietnam era veteran. After completing his basic training at Fort Polk, and his specialty training at Fort Hood, he served stateside in the U.S. Army 1965-1967 at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he worked in the motor transport division and in the paymaster’s office. On January 26, 1967, he married Barbara Jolene Treat from Leslie, Arkansas. To this union were born three children.

Paul was known for his singing, his humor, and his distinct laugh. His children remember him for his dedication to his faith and family. The grandchildren remember him for his generosity and tender heart.

He was of the Assemblies of God faith. For many years he served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He led singing in several congregations. He also served as a trustee, and later as a deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers, Wes and James.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jolene; two sons, Anthony (Cherie) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Jason (Trina) of Russellville, Arkansas; one daughter, Janet (Jason) Carter of Batesville, Arkansas. He is survived by five grandchildren, Bethany (Cameron) Ames of Dardanelle, Arkansas; Brooke (R.J.) Grice of Vilonia, Arkansas; Beau (Shaylee) DeVore of Russellville, Arkansas; and Tyler Carter and Sierra Carter, both of Batesville, Araknsas. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Kash Ames, Kolter Ames and, Halle Grice.

No funeral services are scheduled currently. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery in Russellville.
