Newell Carter

Newell Edward Carter, 75 of Dardanelle, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026. He was born November 5, 1950 in Russellville, Arkansas to Linzy Carter and Athleen Passmore Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ray Gilbert.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Gilbert Carter; sons, Jonathan Newell Carter, Joshua Joseph Carter & wife Amanda; bonus son, Dennis Aaron Moore; sisters-in-law, Janice Lavigne & husband Al, Susan Gilbert; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Newell proudly served his country in the US Navy. During his time he served aboard aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge and submarine USS Casmir Pulaski . He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 3141. He was also a member of Dardanelle Methodist Church. After retirement in 2009, Newell and Carol returned to the house he grew up in on Front Street in Dardanelle. He took pride in helping and looking after several of his friends and neighbors. Newell will be deeply missed by the neighborhood and his community.

His visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday, February 5th, 2026 at Russellville Family Funeral. The memorial service will be 2pm Friday at Russellville Family Funeral officiated by Rev Jim Benfer and Rev Kevin Trantham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Archer, Carter Archer, Dan Brown, Danny Colletii, Ben Cox, Mike Duncan, Ross Haley, Johnny Harwell, Daniel Jackson, Mike Kiser, Jim Lieblong, Justin Lieblong, Dee McCormick, Doyle McEntyre, Mike McEntyre, Gordon Miller, James Miller, Lou Miller, Thomas Miller, Michael Murphy, Richard Payonk, Dale Ridgway, Lance Seeling, Tommy Smith, Rodney Webb, David Wood, Roddy Wood, and members of VFW Post 3141 and 1993 Little League State Championship Team.
