Joyce Inez Abernathy-McPherson

Joyce Inez Abernathy-McPherson, 82 of Russellville , AR passed away February 8, 2019 at the River Valley Hospice Home.  She was born April 27, 1936 in Birta, Arkansas to John Opal Abernathy and Lillian Williams.  

Joyce was retired from the North Little Rock school district. After retirement she was  highly involved in the DHS Foster Grandparent program at Murfreesboro Headstart. She was a member of the Gumlog Fellowship Church and loved singing gospel music, embroidery, puzzles, and working in the garden. She also enjoyed watching Razorback football with her dad and basketball with her mom. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John William Abernathy.

Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn (Eddie) Waterman of Russellville, Drondia (Benny) McPherson Byers of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Allen (Sarah) Frederick, Billy (Annie) McNeely, Lewis McNeely, Tony (Jen) Coccarelli, Mike (Chelsea) McNeely, Amanda Jo Terrell, D.J. Davis; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, three neices, one nephew and numerous other friends and family.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Joyce's honor to the Gumlog fellowship Church, 94 Gumlog Road, Russellville, AR 72802.  The family would like to say a special thank you to the River Valley Hospice Home.

Pallbearers will be her grandson's, Allen Frederick, Billy McNeely, Lewis McNeely, Tony Coccarelli, Mike McNeely, D.J. Davis and great- grandson, Brady Boone. Special escort will be granddaughter, Amanda Jo Terrell. 

The visitation will be 5-7pm Monday February 11, 2019 at Russellville  Family Funeral Chapel. The Funeral service will be 2pm Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Russellville Family Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jess Neal officiating. Burial following in Birta Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral.
