Floyd Vernon Tackett

Jul 20, 1935 — Jun 19, 2026

Cabot

Floyd Vernon Tackett (90) of Cabot, Arkansas passed peacefully to his Heavenly Home Friday, June 19th, 2026. He was born July 20, 1935 in Russellville, Arkansas to Ernest and Sena Tackett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Viti Tackett; son Randy Tackett; siblings Wanda Brown, Lloyd Tackett, Marie Tackett, Christine Tackett, and Catherine Tackett.

He is survived by his two children, Terry (Karen) Tackett; Cindy Hines; grandchildren, John David (Michelle) Tackett; Laura (Joe) Scrivener; Jordan Tackett; Jason Hines; Josh (Lori) Hines; Brittany (Michael) Hoover; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Barbara Hickey and Jimmy Don Tackett.

Floyd lived a very active and meaningful life. He began working at a young age delivering newspapers for the Russellville Courier Democrat. Humor was always a part of his life even earning the nickname “Funny” during school and later his nephews and nieces calling him “Uncle Funny”. Floyd was an athlete and played football, basketball, and ran track while attending Russellville Jr. High/High School. Following HS, he was a motivated worker who became successful in whatever job he had such as delivering for Lance snacks or later as an Agent/District Manager for Life of Georgia Insurance Company.

As a young adult, his faith in Jesus Christ became the central focus of his life. He became a minister in the Church of God of Prophecy and helped to grow churches wherever he pastored. Even though he pastored churches mostly in Arkansas, he also pastored churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Mississippi. He learned to play the guitar so he could lead singing at the churches he pastored or at ministry events such as Nursing homes. Floyd was instrumental in one of his church’s beginning a weekly ministry of providing Sunday afternoon services at the local nursing home. He also helped in forming a gospel singing group that would travel to other churches/events.

Floyd exemplified the love of Jesus throughout his life helping others in whatever way was needed. His energy to care for others was unmatched as he would spend much of his ministry visiting those in the hospital, nursing homes, shut-ins, and anyone he might meet. If you knew Floyd, you knew that he never met a stranger and if you became his friend, you would have a friend for life. Even when he became physically unable to drive, he began a phone ministry of encouraging others as well as a prayer ministry. He also became an ambassador for distributing the devotional booklets titled “My Daily Bread”.

Floyd’s love extended to all people including his family. He and his siblings were always close as he would call and visit on a regular basis. He along with his siblings cared for their mother throughout the years until her death at age 95. He was a supportive and loving husband to his wife of 72 years. He encouraged her to use her gifts of teaching, writing, and art throughout her life. Floyd’s love for his wife as well as his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was evident in how he would care for each one of them even during the final stages of his life.
