Arthur "Mike" Goomeer

Arthur “Mike” Goomeer, 88, of Russellville, passed away, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab. He was born September 27, 1929 in Port Jefferson, New York to Eric and Emily Dickenson Goomeer. He was preceded by his parents; wife, Dorothy Powell Goomeer; daughter, Patricia Beck; brother, Eric Goomeer. He is survived by two daughters, Pam Green (Bobby), Russellville, Phyllis Leavell (Robert, Dover; Four grandchildren, Allison Wiley (Robbie), Dover, Daniel Leavell, Dover, Beth Yearta (Aaron), Jonesboro, Ben Sears (Missy), Russellville; nine great grandchildren, Wade Wiley, Jacob Wiley, Chase Wiley, Will Yearta, Audrey Yearta, Gus Yearta, Henry Yearta, CateLyn Sears, Matthew Sears; great-great granddaughter, Samantha Wiley; sister, June Connor, Long Island, NY; brother-in-law, Fess Powell & Dr. Brenda Powell, Hot Springs, AR and numerous other family and friends. Mike’s love of the sea was proven from his years of devotion to the US Navy. Mike was a 20 year Navy Veteran. He was on a ship that helped lay the Transatlantic Communication Cable, as a deep sea diver. At another time, he was on a ship that performed nuclear testing. Mike was also in the Korean conflict. Mike and his family were stationed all over the world. He oversaw the installation of the microwave communication system, for submarines, on the base, in Morocco, Africa. After his military retirement, he worked numerous years in law enforcement with Pope County and the City of Russellville. He was the first criminal investigator with the Pope County Sheriff’s office. After this retirement, he enjoyed working part time at Sports World. Visitation will be 2-3pm, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Russellville Family Funeral Chapel. Graveside funeral service and burial will be private, for family only, in Shiloh-Williamson Cemetery, under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral. Military honors will be provided by the Rogers-Rye, Post 2283, Veterans of Foreign Wars. In honor of Mike, memorials may be made to AR Special Olympics.
