Arthur "Mike" Goomeer
Arthur âMikeâ Goomeer, 88, of Russellville, passed away, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab. He was born September 27, 1929 in Port Jefferson, New York to Eric and Emily Dickenson Goomeer. He was preceded by his parents; wife, Dorothy Powell Goomeer; daughter, Patricia Beck; brother, Eric Goomeer. He is survived by two daughters, Pam Green (Bobby), Russellville, Phyllis Leavell (Robert, Dover; Four grandchildren, Allison Wiley (Robbie), Dover, Daniel Leavell, Dover, Beth Yearta (Aaron), Jonesboro, Ben Sears (Missy), Russellville; nine great grandchildren, Wade Wiley, Jacob Wiley, Chase Wiley, Will Yearta, Audrey Yearta, Gus Yearta, Henry Yearta, CateLyn Sears, Matthew Sears; great-great granddaughter, Samantha Wiley; sister, June Connor, Long Island, NY; brother-in-law, Fess Powell & Dr. Brenda Powell, Hot Springs, AR and numerous other family and friends. Mikeâs love of the sea was proven from his years of devotion to the US Navy. Mike was a 20 year Navy Veteran. He was on a ship that helped lay the Transatlantic Communication Cable, as a deep sea diver. At another time, he was on a ship that performed nuclear testing. Mike was also in the Korean conflict. Mike and his family were stationed all over the world. He oversaw the installation of the microwave communication system, for submarines, on the base, in Morocco, Africa. After his military retirement, he worked numerous years in law enforcement with Pope County and the City of Russellville. He was the first criminal investigator with the Pope County Sheriffâs office. After this retirement, he enjoyed working part time at Sports World. Visitation will be 2-3pm, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Russellville Family Funeral Chapel. Graveside funeral service and burial will be private, for family only, in Shiloh-Williamson Cemetery, under the direction of Russellville Family Funeral. Military honors will be provided by the Rogers-Rye, Post 2283, Veterans of Foreign Wars. In honor of Mike, memorials may be made to AR Special Olympics. Mr.Goomeer was a great boss. My condolences to his family. ( I talked to his late wife Dotty, often on the phone , there wasn't condolence pages to sign at the time of her passing, this is for her as well. )

I will never forget you! Its going to be hard when I go visit Russellville knowing I can't go visit you! The laughs we had I will always carry in my heart! I will always remember you saying promises, promises when I will tell you I'm coming to see you! We are going to miss you so much! Love you RIP

Mike was like part of my family and I will really miss him. We spent a lot of hours together at Sportsworld and had a lot of good memories.

Roy and I are so very, very sorry for the loss of your father. I loved him instantly when I met him. He was such an awesome man, true Veteran and will be missed by everyone near and far. Peace be with you Mike. Our prayers are with you and all family and friends left behind
